Total Lunar Eclipse are something often looked at with some hesitation as it is known as the Bloody Eye, and is deeply tied to the Blood Touched people. It is said that the red moon is caused by a celestial fight between Lorna and Alkourie resulting in the great eye of Lorna (The full moon) being damaged and splattered with Alkourie’s blood. The moon is said to drive blood touched mad with thirst either for blood or battle.
Because the number of Blood Touched is so limited it is held as more of a superstition than actual fact. This superstition is true in all places of Helios except for Vansen County, which has the highest population of Blood Touched, either born or immigrated, due to the nature of the leaders of the Vansen House. In Vansen it is held as fact and in some places, like Novia, celebrated. Willing participants offer themselves to be fed upon during the Bloody Eye, believing that with the loss of blood they are cleansed of sickness and bad omens.
Partial Lunar Eclipses are another event entirely in Helios. It is seen as Lorna’s defeat by Alkourie, her great eye half lidded and tired. Strict Lorna followers will observe a period of mourning for no less than a week after the partial eclipse, while those fanatics in service to Alkourie enjoy a week of revelry.
I announce my candidacy for the position of Lore Minister.
Why should you vote for me?
I have a long history of server participation, prior experience as a deputy under several Lore Ministers, and a detailed list of goals I wish to accomplish.
Below are my positions as Lore Minister, as well as goals I wish to accomplish should I be elected.
I will be conducting rank ascensions similarly to Tywen and previous Lore Ministries. I do not plan on implementing required quotas for lore needed at time of ascension nor in the period since last ascension. My reasoning is that lore cannot easily be quantified in the same manner as builds and that trying to impose such a system would be harmful to the creative output of the server.
The total body of lore will be assessed for ascensions, not just lore between rankups. There has been discussion lately of this issue in the discord. I want to clarify my current position that under my administration there will not be a mandated amount of lore required between rankups. Just as builds made above and beyond a certain rankup still count for future rankups, so to will lore. I do not want to penalize bursts of activity, nor too strongly punish burnout.
I will place an emphasis on a wide variety of types of lore. Our community has a strong foundation with storytelling and narrative worldbuilding. However, many of our members have skills with many other facets of worldbuilding such as visual art, music, audio stories, and even cooking. I accept and even encourage all of these as valid methods of worldbuilding and useful contributions to the world of Candarion.
I will appoint deputies based on their willingness to contribute to the Lore Ministry in its stated goals and possibly goals of their own. I want to bring in new people to the ministry who are excited to be in the position. I encourage some of our newer members to apply because my hope is that at least one of my deputies will be a first time appointee to the ministries of the server. Deputies will have a direct impact on the methods to achieve my listed goals. I will also work to ensure that they will be able to achieve goals of their own during their time in the position. Additionally, deputies will be included in the lore review process of rank ups and their thoughts will be strongly considered in the final judgement of the Lore Ministry on rank ups.
Create a set of guidelines for appropriate lore at the various rank levels. This will not be a quantitative like the building guide made by Kyrin due to my previously stated position on lore counts. Instead, I will have a list of goals that are to be achieved at each rank. Achievement of these goals is inherently subjective, just as lore is, though I will work to ensure that the judgements made by the Lore Ministry are trusted by the community. To facilitate this these guidelines will be developed with extensive input from the community.
Encourage collaborative lore between realms. I strongly believe that Candarion is a collaborative project. Lore made on the server should reflect that. I will help start collaborative lore projects, such as the "living posts" made by Bryson and Aron. I will also experiment with events that encourage knowledge of other members' realms.
Leverage the community's lore output to aid the Applications Ministry in its advertizing efforts. I will encourage members of the community to post lore to relevant external communities to promote the server's online presence (e.g. reddit, Instagram, YouTube, maybe TikTok?). This will be done in coordination with the goals of the Applications Ministry. This will be optional, and all posts will be made either by the relevant community member or with explicit consent of that member.
Host periodic events to promote server engagement. I have already trialed one of my ideas with the Sentence A Day threads. I have several ideas which I will test during my tenure. These include workshops from community members with expertise in topics that they are willing to teach to fellow members, weekly times dedicated to playing on the server or creating lore, and server wide lore events/prompts.
