  • Letter from Vansen

The scroll was rolled tight and sealed with a black ribbon and further marked by a silvered wax seal. This scroll was further put into a scroll case that bore the same silvered wax seal. The journey from Westport to Dalecara was a strange one, but the courier was Dalecara and he was able to maneuver his way to delivering his letter to Chief Dan Salmonface.

    To: Chiefton Dan Salmonface
From: Helvarin Sir Adam Vansen, Phantoms Cry

Blessing and Light upon you Chiefton. We have heard some of your troubles in Dalecara but knowing how you led your people here on the shores of Helios we have no doubt that you will be successful in all of your endeavors.

My Mother, Helvarin Sivian Vansen, has charged me with much of the tasks that go with leading our county, and as you were once under our charge and flourished as such, I would offer aid if you should need it. We are not a people to show charity, so do not look at it as such, we only wish to help a people we consider our own and you have been a strong representative of those people.

The courier will wait for your reply, he is a good and skilled man, please see that he is treated well.

I know you do not believe in the six, but allow me the small courtesy as I know no other greater wish to give you. May the Blessings of the Six be on you.

Helvarin Sir Adam Vansen, Phantoms Cry

The words of the letter were specific and sure. Helios was known to fervently guard sending weapons and armor to foreign lands, believing that it was unwise to arm someone who might one day be an enemy. Adams words, saying that he considered the Dalecara one of their own perhaps left the door open for more than just food and tools. Adam unlike his mother was far more careful with his words, while she was blunt and to the point he spoke like layers on layers, a true son of Lorna.

  • Shoeing a Helian Heavy Draft

    See: Helian Heavy Draft

Farriers in Helios are not created equal, there are those who specialize in caring for the hooves of the massive Helian heavy draft. They often travel from settlement to settlement, bringing a mobile shop with them that includes a mobile horse crush, that allows them to support the weight of the creature's huge hooves and replace the worn shoes, trim hooves and generally care for the creatures. They will work in tandem with the town smiths if available but if not they are able to do some minor smithing work with local heat. The average shoe for a Heavy Draft can weigh between ten and fifteen pounds, with another half pound of weight in the nails.

The Ferrier crew consisted of four to five persons with one of them being considered the master farrier, who does the final trim of the hooves and the final fit of the shoe. The others are considered assistants and help in moving the huge shoes, corralling the animal and the general maintenance of the equipment. Some Ferrier’s are accompanied by an apothecary who specializes in treating animal injuries and ailments. This service is uncommon though as it often ups the price substantially. The crew travels in a wagon pulled by a heavy draft that carries all of their supplies and serves as a living quarters. The crush for the horse is either foldable and attached to the side of the wagon or pulled behind it on a set of removable wheels.

When the Farriers arrive they often stay for about a week and do all of the heavy drafts in the area, while not all of the horses need shoes they generally all have their hooves looked at and a general check up although most Heavy Draft owners are fairly skilled in caring for their own animals.

Some especially large settlements like Hyperion, Westport or Orbitus have dedicated farriers who have free standing shops and have the animals come to them. Oftentimes merchants will wait until they reach one of these places to have their animals serviced as the permanent nature of these farriers means they see a lot of horses and are considered especially skilled in their trade.

  • Fun Fact: Battle Chants

    Battle Chants

Battle chants are common in Helios. They are done before mock battles like Noteda Dais and on the field of war like with the recent Iron Moon Conflict. Some are done only for the individual and others for their enemies to be shaken by. While there are countless chants, these are some common ones.

    Alkouri's Gaze

    Screams and Cries.
    Blood as Paint.
    Guts as String.
    Flesh as Drum.
    Theater of War.
    Draw Gods Gaze!

    Line Chant

    Sunder yourself on willing blades
Break your spears on sturdy shields

    (Repeated x5)

    No Retreat

(Often this is said under ones breath or at a whisper.)

Cunning Dagger, Brave Sword, Slick Spear, Drawn Bow, Sturdy Shield, Thundering Hammer.
    (Repeated x2)
Bent Dagger, Broken Sword, Shattered Spear, Slipped String, Rent Shield, Cracked Mallet

    Noteda Chant

Flags of enemies past hang forever in the halls of heaven
Flags of foes vanquished, forgotten to men, hang forever in the halls of heaven
Names of Heroes slain uttered into the fire at the heart of heaven
On this battlefield, we are the memories of the fallen
On this battlefield we strive to be the victors.

Of the 6 gods of Helios, only one is still known by it's original name. The God of War, Alkourie.

  • RE: Vetoing Minister Denial

So we are just going to do away with the minister positions then?

This only matters if someone you like gets rejected, and you think they shouldn't then apathy voting takes hold and that person gets a rank up. Cool. That sounds like a terrible system.

trust your ministers to do their jobs, and if you dont trust them dont vote for them when elections come up.
