EDIT: This month has ended and so too has this thread. Please post November's lore in this thread.

The other thread is a bit crowded and could use a newer, cleaner home.

Unfortunately, I will be discontinuing prizes for future threads unless someone is willing to donate prizes to Sentence A Day.

The myriad of caves that run through the mountains are a spawning grounds for many beasts. Griffins nest in the higher peaks, though they have been pushed out of a large area around Vunkuldir, to protect denizens in the higher levels. Perytons nest closer to the forest, where prey is more abundantly available.

There are few cunning folk among the dwarves of southern Cyrellia compared to other groups in the realm, and there is limited talk of magic among their oral and written histories. It is not known why this is.

There are two races of merfolk that live in Abijungya; colloquially, they are referred to as Sea Merfolk and River Merfolk. River Merfolk are amphibious humanoid creatures about the size of a human or an elf with scales that range from shades of dark blue or purple to light sliver. Sea Merfolk are completely aquatic creatures that are much smaller and more fishlike than River Merfolk. Their scales also come in a much wider variety of colors.
The term "River Merfolk" is a bit of a misnomer as both races live in ocean settlements. The name likely came from the fact that River Merfolk are amphibious and can live inland away from the sea should they so desire, likely leading many to believe that they came from rivers.

              Isara & Helios

The Isaran have not embraced the worship of The Six, even though they have had a strong relationship with Helios for two generations. While they have not embraced the faith they have embraced some of the magic with some Isaran learning the more methodical magic taught by the Scholars of Zayl. As of yet the Dorenrite has not failed to work on any Isaran it has been cast on.

                Aiolia

The denizens of Aiolia mainly follow Quatocolumne as their main religion, though some still worship the old gods. After the War of Blood, these old gods have begun to make a return, Quatocolumne is beginning to become a religion of luxury.

Dwarves of Vunkuldir often find it best to not venture too deep into the hold, though many will still make the journey to the first floor of Vunkuldir just for the bath houses alone. One of the first constructs built when the mountain was found, it serves as a great attraction and resource, even though the upper floors have water pumped straight up to them, many will still make the journey down towards the below.

The written histories and records of the dwarf hold in southern Cyrellia extend back many years and are remarkably intact. However, they mysteriously stop abruptly a few decades after the First Comet.

Some cunning folk in Cyrellia will possess a "Black Codex", which acts as a repository of their knowledge and potentially the passed-down knowledge of their predecessors. While it often does take the form of a book or journal, it may also be a scroll, a tablet, a collection of relics, the mind of the owner, etc. Many of the written Codices are encoded or in an uncommon language to protect their contents from prying eyes. Some Codices are not associated with any of the cunning folk and may be kept as curios or objects of reverence (and/or fear) by individuals or groups.

Though the Artaire Forest and the Thurial Wilds are considered much safer than the Golden North and the Grey Mountains, they are by no means completely safe. There are still beasts and things that go bump in the night, such as the occasional were-beast, and even far-ranging perytons. Dangerous beasts lair in natural concentrations of magic, often in old ruins, placed where they are specifically to harness that power, before having been forgotten or driven out by those beasts. Great treasures are said to lay dormant in these structures, if you are brave, or dumb, enough to go seeking them out.

The city of Orsai was once a Kymer settlement, known for being a safe-haven for pirates. Now it is an independent city-state governed by pirates and the only law in the city is a single, brief document called the Corsair Articles.

The first dynasty of the Kingdom of Kymer had no formal rules in place for succession to the throne other than declaring the position hereditary. Most monarchs of this dynasty would name an heir before they died, however none of their named heirs ever ascended to the throne. Typically the monarch's successor would be the last surviving member of their family, as the periods shortly before or after the monarch's death would usually result in anyone with a legitimate claim to the throne trying to kill everyone else with a legitimate claim of their own. The Wild Roses, a secret society of elite assassins, first rose to prominence during this era since they were frequently hired by royals to off other royals during these transitional periods.

The current Ruler, Bryson Hawkson, is the longest-serving Ruler that has not had a successor named. This has created some instability with the nobility, as many offer up noble scions to hopefully be named, or even unwed women, to hopefully produce a child with. Currently, he has shown no interest in taking a bride, or in declaring an heir.

Most Daoine villages are positively ancient, having existed since history has been recorded by the Daoine, and there are only a few stories of a time spent under siege by someone else. These are more ghost stories than actual history, as most have only ever known the quiet village life, as their parents, grandparents, and great grandparents have. Going back generations. Most Obrex settlements on the other hand are very new. Many don't have a history over 100 years old, as the migration of peoples around Obrexia is only really now starting to bloom. There are a few exceptions to this, of course, Hawk's Landing being several hundred years old, Riverwatch nearing its second century, and a few other key mercantile cities scattered about the realm.

Some early maps of Abijungya produced by the Kingdom of Kymer feature an island called Teretour. Every map put the island in a slightly different place, but in reality, there is no island in any of the places indicated by any of the maps. There is a heated debate over whether or not this island ever existed, but according to some, the entire island sat on the back of a living creature, and that creature has merely swam elsewhere.

"Raid" is the name of a popular children's game in The Kingdom of Kymer. Participants play by each building their own small boat out of sticks and leaves which they then float in the water. Players then take turns throwing rocks at other players' boats until only one remains. Though the game predates it by many years, it didn't become popular until after the formation of the Corsair Republic in the settlement of Orsai.

Down in the depths, there are swift rivers and deep lakes. These water sources are the lifeblood of the Underdark, and most things in the depths could not survive without them. They serve as ecological marvels, with glowing algae and mosses littering the surface. Some say there are settlements around these pools, others say nothing but grave danger awaits.
