Hello! I had been seeing Candarion's Reddit posts over time, and I noticed that whenever I saw a new post, it would grab me - so I decided that it's about time to come check it out! I'm really digging the worldbuilding and the thought and effort that went into making this, and I also appreciate the system of government you've designed, with everyone (well, everyone who's important anyway, it's the middle ages after all) getting a yea or nay vote to change things about the server, and I'm already thinking about what I would vote to change! This feels right up my alley.
I'm 33 and have been playing Minecraft since it became playable. I've found that as I got older and also got less time to game overall, my playstyle in Minecraft has shifted from focusing on min-maxing to things like building and infrastructure design; essentially doing what I can to help mold the world and help improve others' experiences of it. I also just like to vibe in Minecraft as well. Tending farms and chopping down trees can be cathartic.
I've done my fair share of roleplay in various mediums when I was younger, but I must admit that I'm not as into it nowadays, so I'm glad Candarion doesn't really do that (I think?). I like the ideas and lore behind things, but not the real-time acting out of things, if that makes sense.
I've written quite a bit of lore in my roleplaying days, but that was a long time ago, and I'm not sure if it's my strong suit now. I found that with certain mediums I ended up spending more time writing lore than enjoying the thing itself (mainly video games), so I started leaning away from it. I understand that it's the reverse for some people, which is great for them! But for me, I think in this case that the Minecraft gameplay would probably take priority, and lore-writing secondary to that.
My Minecraft username is Zenkiel, and I'm in the Pacific timezone. I am very much a casual player, but I can occasionally have streaks of mad activity if I get really passionate about a project. I should also mention that I have my own Minecraft server as well, although it's on the smaller side and is primarily just family & friends. I'm applying here because I legitimately like the idea of Candarion and would like to enjoy it as a regular player. As a server owner, I think it would also be nice to be on the other side of things - a commoner as you call it - and take direction from others instead of being the person to give it.
For my character backstory, I think I'll keep him somewhat open-ended for now, since I'm not sure which realm I'd prefer just yet, and I think it also partly depends on the liege, if we mesh, etc.
Zenkiel is a simple man. He wants to be a simple man; he enjoys it. But there's ambition in him, a calling for something greater, and that calling is suppressed one day and embraced the next. This is his battle. He is a worker, a laborer even, and breaks his back performing tasks others would look down upon, but that he finds joy in and believes brings utility to others. Before and after a hard day's work, he sits and drinks his coffee or his tea and stares blankly at the natural yet cultivated world around him. He both relishes this experience and daydreams of a different life for himself. When he tires of the monotony that once gave him comfort, he turns to intellectually or socially challenging pursuits - academia and politics. He can't decide if this behavior is a whetstone keeping his mind and character sharp, or a compulsion to propel himself forward and never stop. As the sun rises and sets, he will eventually long for nothing more than to let his mind drift while he paves another road or brings in the day's harvest - let the others worry about the world and its big questions.
And here's a gallery of some builds: https://imgur.com/a/ApyZmHY
There are some air ships in there, which I know aren't a thing here, but I figured I'd just include those as more examples. I should also say that I do sometimes look up design videos and whatnot, but I try to also improve my own building skill and make tweaks as I go.
Very nice application. I'll give you your first vote 1/5
Neato application, take a vote. 2/5
Super detailed application, I'll give you your third vote 3/5
Just to address a couple questions:
- You’re right, in character role play is done rarely if ever
- Airships are not really a thing around here (any flying structure that can freely move is frowned upon), but they are fine to show your building skill!
- You don’t necessarily have to stick with the lore you write for the application, that’s just for us to gauge where you’re at as far as lore creation goes.
I’m sure someone like Bryson will have a couple more questions to ask you, but I’d like to give you your final vote anyway. 5/5
Posted while I was asleep, sorry for not getting the questions in sooner, just saw the notif. You have a great app!
We have a few questions we start people off with, so here they are:
What is/are your favorite colors(s)?
What type of fantasy races are you most interested in?
Do you have a general understanding of progression in this server?
What's your favorite biome to build in?
What's your favorite type of wood in Minecraft?
You already have all the votes, but the questions also help inform vassalship offers.
You can have mine as well, even if you don't need it ;p, 6/5
@bryson3842 Here are my answers
What is/are your favorite colors(s)? Oh man. It varies, but for now it's one of these: Dark Jade, Charcoal, or Dark Walnut
What type of fantasy races are you most interested in? Since I'm rewatching the Lord of the Rings trilogy right now, I'll go with the humans of Gondor. There's something I really like about the idea of flawed people. Boromir is the obvious example here, in that he is influenced by the power of the ring but is able to find his way back to virtue; to me, this kind of inner conflict, turmoil, and struggle is far more meaningful than the typical noble Elves or the hardy Dwarves or the Hobbits, who in my opinion aren't nearly as layered as the various humans are. Also, even though it's apparent that Gondor is sinking into ruin, its people continue to fight in hopes of a better future. I like that. It reminds me of that poem, "Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
Do you have a general understanding of progression in this server? I believe it's mainly based on legally-recognized builds, but also factors in server activity and lore contributions. Realm progression seems to work in a similar way, also based on legal builds.
What's your favorite biome to build in? I'm actually not sure, to be honest. I like fitting my builds to their environments as much as possible, as I imagine most people do, but I'm not sure if I have a favorite. If I had to pick, I guess I'd say I gravitate more towards snowy and cold biomes, but again it's not a strong preference.
What's your favorite type of wood in Minecraft? Probably spruce and oak, but again it's not a strong preference.
Zenkiel has passed their interview, offers may now commence.
I would like to extend the offer for you to join me in Obrexia, a land of magic and growth in a turbulent time. If you have any questions please feel free to ask on here or discord.
I am in EST but feel free to message me whenever or every minute until I respond, but I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Some more images can be found here on my imgur.
Join soon and get a free 13.00+ speed horse! Also, I am more than willing to do a tour whenever you want.
You’re invited to join me in Thálassagorod, a magical and deeply troubled republic. I’ve got plenty of building materials and resources that any realm member can access and some fairly in depth but open ended lore that should let any future vassal ham on their building and write pretty quickly.
I’m in GMT(UK) time and mostly active during the weekend but if you’d like a tour or even just someone to ask random questions about the server to, feel free to send me a message.
Hey really amazing application, I would love to show you around Leaundeval and offer you a place in my realm!
Close to spawn and all the farms.
Applicants will receive:
- A full diamond armor
- 32 emeralds
- A perfect pickaxe
here is some of my work so far:
Gralewen, the city on the rock, capital of Leaundeval.
the Hamlet of Cea and its mine.
I would humbly extend unto you an invitation to join the far-south realm of Coghan. A nation with plenty of room to explore and rediscover, Coghan is a politically complex city-state which must contend with threats both human and supernatural as they reclaim their birthright and the ashes of their former society, in the wake of the Storm of Erasure.
While not new, Coghan is still somewhat small, and its lore and world still have new horizons to reach–who knows? Maybe you will be the catalyst which sets Coghan's course anew.
Not only this, but Coghan is home to biomes not found anywhere else on the server, and is the only realm which is majorly (in fact, only) snow biomes. If you'd like to build in a winter wonderland, Coghan would be the best business decision in that regard.
Regardless of your choice of liege, I know you will be in good hands, and hope you enjoy your time on the server!
After some exploring and touring (and thank you to everyone who gave me a tour!), I’ve decided to become a vassal of Helios.
