Iron Mon War: Chapter 6: March on Ijub'hol
The Helians were finally united, the north and southern forces combined into one. What little resistance they faced was stamped out or fled in their presence. They moved less like an army and more like a procession. Priestess and Clerics walked at the head of the column singing constant hymns. From the start of the march to the end of the day they kept up their singing, rotating members to keep voices from breaking. The standard of Sir Valiant Omari was at the head and was flanked by two glowing white banners to Wenna and Lorna respectively.
Behind them were the state troops, carrying banners to Helios and to their respective units. Behind them were the Knights of Helios, each representing their houses.
The Toten did not march with them, but moved through the woods flanking the main column. They were almost never seen, but provided a sizable force to keep the flanks protected and well scouted.
They had one destination, the largest city of the orcs, Ijud’hol. That was the only place they could muster, it was the last city for the orcs. Formerly it had been a Toten settlement, but it was the first to fall when the orcs arrived. It would be the site of the last battle.
Black smoke billowed in the distance, orcish furnaces and fires burned. They were close now. The column spilled out into a flat open plain although it was not natural. Every tree had been felled and the sumps pulled up and left to rot. The expanse was vast, it was almost shocking to see the scale that the orcs had deforested in such a short time.
Ramparts were in the distance, the home of much of the felled wood likely.
