Iron Moon War: Chapter 8: The March Home
The Iron Moon War, as it had been named by the collective scholars, had ended. A peace was born with the orcs set sail for a distant shore. A new ally was gained in the Toten, their place in this all unknown now that the threat was gone. They had spent an eternity hiding from the humans, and now they were out in the open.
The battle had ended but there was still glory plenty to be had. Commanders of support troops jockeyed for assignment, to break down encampments, and to erect permanent fortifications. They saw this as their war. The vast distance and sheer number of people caused somewhat of a logistical nightmare, but such things birth innovation in technique and standard, allowing men who might have never had their names remembered, etched into the books that would be studied long after they died.
Scholars swarmed the battlefields as the troops left, each wishing to document everything and anything, those interested in the orcs found ample material, and those tasked with dealing with the foul magic that birthed the werewolves were met with a wall of the divine. There were some small skirmishes between the scholars of Zayl and the church of Wenna, that resulted in some casualties on both sides, but in the end the Church left the victors, acquiring much information and many relics from the tainted sites. There was a lifetime of lore and knowledge to be gained and each follower there saw to it that they would spend their life writing it all.
Armies marched home as victors and veterans. Stories and songs were born of their bravery that would long outlast them. A war of this type that had not been seen in a century, it proved to untested generals that they could lead, and it forged what would be a generation of fighters that would know the horrors and passions of warfare. They witnessed horrors, and saw miracles. The bonds forged in this war would serve to strengthen the ties of the Helian people, not just to each other but to their faith.
